Nonpoint source pollution does not have a specific identifiable source, but instead, is caused by rainfall or snowmelt moving across and through the land, picking up and carrying with it natural and man-made pollutants into the waterways.
Nonpoint source pollution includes fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, oil, grease, sediment, bacteria, nutrients, atmospheric deposition and hydromodification. Nonpoint source pollution is the leading remaining cause of water quality problems.
