The Interagency Ecological Program (IEP) is a collaborative science effort between nine state and federal agencies and one NGO that work to develop a better understanding of the Delta’s ecology and the effects of water project operations on the physical, chemical, and biological conditions of the estuary.
The ten member agencies are: Department of Water Resources, Department of Fish and Game, State Water Resources Control Board, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Geological Survey, Army Corps of Engineers, National Marine Fisheries Service, Environmental Protection Agency, and the San Francisco Estuary Institute.
Mission statement (from the Strategic Plan): “The mission of the IEP is to provide and integrate relevant and timely ecological information for management of the Bay‐Delta ecosystem and the water that flows through it. This is accomplished through collaborative and scientifically sound monitoring, research, modeling, and synthesis efforts for various aspects of the aquatic ecosystem. The IEP addresses high priority management and policy science needs to meet the purposes and fulfill responsibilities under State and Federal regulatory requirements. The IEP relies upon multidisciplinary teams of agency, academic, non‐governmental agencies (NGO), and other scientists to accomplish its mission.”
