Natural Resources Agency
The California Natural Resources Agency oversees and supports many water-related departments, conservancies, and commissions, including the Department of Water Resources and the California Water Commission, and spearheads many water-related initiatives.
The Natural Resources Agency released a water supply strategy in August of 2022. The Agency is a partner in the efforts to negotiate voluntary agreements in the Bay Delta watershed. Other initiatives include Building water resilience (Water Resilience Portfolio), Protecting biodiversity (30x30 Initiative), Expanding nature-based solutions, Salton Sea Management Program, Building climate resilience, and Restoring forest health for wildfire and climate resilience.
The Natural Resources Agency supports many water-related departments and entities, including:
- Departments: Department of Water Resources, Department of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Conservation.
- Conservancies: Delta Conservancy, Tahoe Conservancy, Sierra Nevada Conservancy, San Gabriel & Lower Los Angeles Rivers & Mountains Conservancy, San Diego River Conservancy, Coastal Conservancy, San Joaquin River Conservancy
- Commissions: Board of Forestry, California Boating and Waterways Commission, California Fish and Game Commission, California Water Commission, Central Valley Flood Protection Board, Delta Protection Commission, Native American Heritage Commission, Oroville Dam Citizens Advisory Commission, San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, Wildlife Conservation Board
- Councils: Biodiversity Council, Delta Stewardship Council, Ocean Protection Council
