The mission of the Division of Boating and Waterways is to provide safe and convenient public access to California's waterways and leadership in promoting safe, enjoyable and environmentally sound recreational boating. This includes the management of aquatic invasive species such as quagga and zebra mussels, and aquatic vegetation such as water hyacinth.
The Division is part of the California Department of Parks and Recreation, which is part of the California Natural Resources Agency.
DBW is responsible for planning, developing, and improving facilities on state-owned and state-managed properties, including those on State Parks and State Water Project properties. It also provides funding so that local agencies can renew deteriorated facilities or develop new public access. In addition, the Division is heavily involved in furthering environmentally sound boating practices through its clean and green programs.
