Bureau of Reclamation - Lower Colorado Region
The Bureau of Reclamation's Lower Colorado (LC) Region encompasses southern Nevada, southern California, most of Arizona, a small corner of southwest Utah and a small section of west-central New Mexico. The Region acts as Watermaster of the lower Colorado River, primarily focusing on the Lower Colorado River from Lee’s Ferry in northern Arizona to the border with Mexico.
The Lower Colorado Region carries out the Interior's role as Watermaster of the lower Colorado River; delivers water to 2.5 million acres of land, 23 million people, and Mexico; produces hydroelectric power distributed to contractors in Arizona, Nevada, and California; works to resolve water supply and demand imbalances in the Colorado River Basin; and implements the Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Plan.
The Bureau of Reclamation is part of the Department of the Interior. The mission of the Bureau of Reclamation is to manage, develop, and protect water and related resources in an environmentally and economically sound manner in the interest of the American public.
The Bureau of Reclamation Lower Colorado Region's specific programs and responsibilities include:
- Water and reservoir management: Lower Colorado River operations, Central Arizona Project, Hoover Dam, Parker Dam, and Davis Dam.
- Future river operations: Hydrology projections, studies, Water Conservation Field Services Program
- Ecosystem: Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program, quagga mussels, Salton Sea.
- Native Americans: Native American Affairs Program, Cultural Resources
- Salinity: Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Project, Yuma Desalter
- Hydropower: Lower Colorado Region Power Office
- Funding programs: Water Smart, WIIN Act, Applied Science
