NOTICE: Direct Potable Reuse (DPR) Criteria Expert Panel – final panel preliminary findings posted

From the State Water Resources Control Board:

The State Water Board Division of Drinking Water (DDW) has posted the final memo on Expert Panel Preliminary Findings and Recommendations on Draft DPR Criteria. Pursuant to Water Code section 13561.2, an expert panel must review the proposed DPR criteria and make a finding as to whether, in its expert opinion, the proposed criteria would adequately protect public health.

The panel found that “the Early Draft of Anticipated Criteria for Direct Potable Reuse dated August 17, 2021, adequately protects public health.” The panel finding is an important milestone in the regulation development process. The State Board cannot adopt regulations unless and until the panel adopts a finding that the regulations would adequately protect public health.

DDW staff appreciates the diligence of the expert panel as it reviewed and deliberated on the draft criteria during the panel meetings. We look forward to working with the panel as regulation development continues.
