NOTICE: Public Workshops Discuss Changes to 2022 Central Valley Flood Protection Plan

From the Department of Water Resources:

California’s rapidly changing climate is increasing flood risk even while the state experiences long-term, extreme drought. More intense swings from record dry to record wet conditions mean flooding can happen at any time. The Central Valley Flood Protection Board (CVFPB) in coordination with the Department of Water Resources (DWR) will hold three public workshops to discuss the potential changes to the 2022 Central Valley Flood Protection Plan (CVFPP) Update and review previously submitted public comments. While the CVFPB is no longer accepting comments on the 2022 CVFPP Update, the public is encouraged to attend the workshops and participate in discussions about the comments already received.

The CVFPP is California’s strategic framework for reducing flood risk in the Central Valley, which has among the highest flood risks in the nation. The Central Valley is home to millions of people and billions of dollars in infrastructure, property and farms, and extensive and diverse natural resources, all at risk of catastrophic flooding. Topics covered during this workshop will include the Conservation Strategy, Operations & Maintenance, Reclamation District 1000’s “Seeing Levees Saving Lives campaign, as well as review of submitted comments and changes made to the 2022 CVFPP Update draft.
