From the State Water Resources Control Board:
New reports are now available from the Oil and Gas Regional Groundwater Monitoring Program https://www.waterboards.ca.gov/water_issues/programs/groundwater/sb4/regional_monitoring/:
- Airborne Electromagnetic Survey Results near the Poso Creek Oil Field, San Joaquin Valley, California, Fall 2016. The U.S. Geological Survey used airborne electromagnetic surveys to map groundwater salinity in the Poso Creek Oil Field area.
- The data associated with this report “Airborne electromagnetic and magnetic survey data, southeastern San Joaquin Valley near Cawelo, California, 2016” are also now available.
- Geologic controls on groundwater salinity reversal in North Coles Levee Oil Field, southern San Joaquin Valley, California, USA. This study uses borehole geophysical logs to observe groundwater salinity in the North Coles Levee Oil Field.
- The data associated with this report “Geophysical and geological data for select petroleum wells in North Coles Levee Oil Field, Kern County, California” are also now available.
Background
California Water Code section 10783 (Senate Bill 4, Pavley, statutes of 2013) requires the State Water Board to implement a regional groundwater monitoring program. The program goal is to evaluate potential impacts from oilfield operations and characterize the risk to groundwater resources, while prioritizing areas to be monitored. The U.S. Geological Survey is technical lead.
