NOTICE: Emergency Regulation for Klamath River Watershed – Approved and Now in Effect

From the State Water Resources Control Board:

The emergency regulation for the Klamath River watershed (focused on the Scott River and Shasta River watersheds) went into effect on Monday, August 30, 2021.   The emergency regulation, as approved by the Office of Administrative Law, is available on the Scott River and Shasta River Watersheds Drought Response webpage.

The emergency regulation provides the State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) with curtailment authority to protect minimum instream flows, establishes minimum human health and safety and livestock watering provisions, and limits diversions for livestock from September through January.

Limitations on Livestock Watering DiversionsThe requirements related to inefficient livestock watering are effective immediately and are not dependent on curtailment orders.  In accordance with the emergency regulation, during September through January, all surface water diversions for livestock watering must be limited to the quantities or methods identified in the emergency regulation.  Please refer to the livestock watering letter for more information.
