From the California Natural Resources Agency:
Today the Climate Action Advisory Panel released its summary document: Expanding Climate Action through Nature-Based Solutions. The report is below.
The Climate Action Advisory Panel collaborated to distill current knowledge available on conservation and climate action, highlight gaps and needs, and develop recommendations to inform the State’s commitment to conserve 30 percent of California’s lands and coastal waters by 2030 (30×30) and enlist California’s vast network of natural and working lands in the fight against climate change.
The Panel includes specialists from academic and research institutions across California, representing expertise in climate-ecosystem interactions, forestry and fire protection, forest ecology, oceanography, landscape architecture, and climate adaptation and resilience. Panelist bios can be found here along with the questions that the panelists were asked to address – click on the Topical Workshop 1 header to see both. The public is also being asked to consider how they would address these questions.
Please join us on June 8 for a virtual topical workshop that will feature a presentation from the Advisory Panel, as well as an opportunity to provide input on how CNRA and its partners can deliver on the state’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality and build climate resilience.
Topical Workshop: Expanding Climate Action Through Nature-Based Solutions
Tuesday, June 8 | 3:00–6:00 p.m. Register Today | Agenda
Combatting climate change will require engagement and input from all of California’s diverse communities. Public participation is instrumental to the success of these workshops, and participants will have an opportunity to share their perspectives and insights on the topic to inform the Pathways to 30×30 document and Natural and Working Lands Climate Smart Strategy.
All meetings are open to the public and will be accessible by Zoom, a phone dial-in option, and YouTube livestream. Advance registration is required and participants who wish to make a 90-second public comment will need to register to provide verbal input during the public comment session.
Visit www.CaliforniaNature.ca.gov for additional information about the virtual workshop and other ways to provide comments.
In 2020, California committed to protecting 30 percent of its land and coastal waters by 2030 through Governor Newsom’s executive order. To inform this effort, the California Natural Resources Agency is developing a “Pathways to 30×30” document to identify strategies to achieve 30×30. The executive order also called for the California Natural Resources Agency to develop a Natural and Working Lands Climate Smart Strategy intended to guide long-term climate action on California’s lands.
