From the San Joaquin River Restoration Program:
Reclamation has received and conditionally approved the Restoration Administrator’s recommended flow schedule dated April 17, 2020 covering a full “Restoration Year.” The conditional approval is based on successful passing of a Water Supply Test to ensure there are no increases in water delivery reductions to any Friant Long-term Contractor. Only water released after May 28 would be affected by the Water Supply Test.
The current Restoration Allocation is 211,123 acre-feet as measured at Gravelly Ford. As of April 22, 2020, 26,515 acre-feet of Base Flows and 605 acre-feet of Buffer Flows have been released. The remaining schedule shows a release of 122,647 acre-feet of Base Flows and 487 acre-feet of returned exchanges. This schedule generates 61,960 acre-feet of Unreleased Restoration Flows (URF) at the current allocation.
The schedule shift of 75,537 acre-feet to summer, primarily consisting of moving Spring Flexible-Flow Account volumes beyond May 28, requires a full Water Supply Test. This shifted volume of water consists of URFs (61,960 acre-feet) and base flows scheduled for river release between May 29 and September 30 (13,577 acre-feet).
Below is a summary table of the recommendation’s flows:
