Water agencies request 60 day continuance
The Department of Water Resources and the Bureau of Reclamation have sent letter to the State Water Resources Control Board, requesting a 60-day continuance of the start of the California Water Fix water rights change petition.
The letter states:
“Based upon recent success settling issues raised in the EIR/EIS process and ongoing discussions with protestants, Petitioners believe that a continuance could provide additonal time to resolve other protests to simply and expedite the hearing process. The additonal time would also reduce the State Water Board’s burden of analyzing and deliberating on a number of parties claims and scope of the hearing.”
With DWR and Reclamation’s testimony and exhibits for Part 1A of the hearing due for submission to the Board by noon on March 30, 2016, they are requesting prompt approval.

California WaterFix Aquatic Science Peer Review scheduled for April 5-6
At the request of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), select staff from the Delta Stewardship Council’s Delta Science Program will convene an independent scientific peer review for the joint Biological Opinion and 208 1(b) Incidental Take Permit analyses of the California WaterFix aquatic science on April 5 and 6.
The Delta Science Program, consistent with its mission to provide best available scientific information to assist decision making in the Delta, is employing the services of independent reviewers not involved in the ESA consultation and 2081(b) permit to comment on the use of the best available scientific and commercial information as it pertains to aquatic ESA and CESA listed species (aquatic species) in the development of the NMFS/FWS BO and the CDFW 2081(b) permit.
The role of the Independent Science Reviewer is to provide the investigative team with a balanced, considered and constructive review of three documents: 1)the draft BO analy5tical approach, 2)specific BA analyses (identified in the panel charge), and 3) the approach to analyzing the effects to longfin smelt.
