Hello readers,
It has certainly been a busy week! Critically Overdrafted Basins, a NASA groundwater subsidence report, a new PPIC drought report, and more, there’s been a lot of breaking news. And while the news has certainly been busy, there have been still other meetings going on that I have been following.
So here’s what you can look forward to next week:
Critically Overdrafted Basins Public Meeting: Reader interest in DWR’s draft Critically Overdrafted Basins list has been phenomenal, and so as a result, I will be covering the public meeting in Clovis. I hope to have coverage from the meeting posted by Thursday at the latest. (I’ll be on the road, which makes it a little more challenging, but not impossible.)
Delta tunnels: Earlier this week, Metropolitan’s Special Committee on the Bay Delta heard a presentation on the California Water Fix, including Metropolitan’s analysis of whether or not the project is capable of capturing excess stormflows. The next day, Senator Wolk held an informational oversight hearing asking the question, Are the tunnels good for California? Coverage of both of these events will be posted next week.
Note on the basin boundary regulations: Due to some webcast issues, I was unable to get the entire basin boundary regulation presentation at the California Water Commission. It usually takes a week or more for the webcasting service to post the archived webcast, and even if they were to post it next week, I’m going to be too busy to work on it. The comment period closes September 4th, so if you are needing more information before the comment period closes, look at the meeting materials from the August meeting, check out this nice summary from Somach Simmons & Dunn, and watch for the webcast to be posted in the Water Commission archive here.
And lastly … Thank you for being a reader of Maven’s Notebook! There’s now more of you than ever! July was the a record month for the Notebook with over 61,000 pages served to more than 21,000 visitors – there is no better fix for a statistics junkie like me than to break records 🙂 So thank you again for being a reader, because it really is all of you showing up here every day that keeps me showing up here, too.
May you have a peaceful and enjoyable weekend.
With warmest regards,
Maven
