Last month, the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) submitted an application to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeking a programmatic permit to allow the installation of temporary, emergency drought barriers across three channels in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The temporary rock barriers would be installed only in the event of drought conditions so severe that physical salinity control structures are needed to conserve water in upstream reservoirs for health and safety and critical environmental purposes.
DWR staff will discuss the permit application as well as the Department’s analysis of the environmental effects of emergency drought barriers and proposed actions to mitigate any adverse effects at an informational meeting Thursday, February 12 at 6 p.m. in Clarksburg.
