Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins has (D-San Diego) today announced the appointment of Aja Brown to the Delta Stewardship Council.
Aja Brown currently serves as the Mayor of Compton, where she has implemented economic, social, and wellness empowerment initiatives, attracted vital resources and partnerships, and established a strategic plan for guided growth. Brown has experience in environmental policy analysis and her understanding of urbanization and environmental degradation, water reclamation, new purification technologies and the need to improve and expand existing delivery systems and channels will further the Delta Council’s mission. Brown holds a Master of Planning, Economic Development Emphasis degree from the University of Southern California.
Created by the legislature in 2009, the Delta Stewardship Council is composed of members who represent different parts of the state and offer diverse expertise in fields such as agriculture, science, the environment, and public service. Of the seven, four are appointed by the Governor, one each by the Senate and Assembly, and the seventh is the Chair of the Delta Protection Commission.
Note: Aja Brown replaces Gloria Gray, whose term expired.
