On July 2nd, the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Water, Parks, and Wildlife Anthony Rendon presented proposed Principles for Developing a Water Bond to Assembly members and the public. Those principles include setting priorities for water bond financing, retaining provisions which prohibit use of water bond funds for construction or mitigation of new Delta water conveyance facilities, respecting existing water rights and area-of-origin protections, and prohibiting earmarks and instead establishing competitive processes for water bond funding.
During the summer break, Assembly members are discussing these principles with their constituents. When the Assembly returns in August, the Committee will hear feedback from Assembly members. Further work is expected at that point, although no plans have been set as of yet.
In the spirit of fostering discussion, the Committee has prepared a summary of the comments received so far. Anyone wishing to contribute their thoughts and perspectives are invited to to do by emailing Sri Ramesh by August 2nd.
