WEBSITE NEWS: New website features, Maven to mark a milestone, and more … !

Dear Readers,

Behind the scenes, a lot has been going on here at the Notebook.  Here’s a run down …

NEW WEBSITE FEATURES

You may have noticed that I’ve added a few new things to the website:

New email options:  For those of you who prefer, there is now an option to turn off breaking news alerts and just receive a single email Monday through Friday.  There is also a weekly option, which will send out Featured articles and significant news items posted on the Notebook along with links to the daily features.  The weekly version has proven to be a bit trickier to produce, so I’m still working on it, and hope to have it ironed out in a week or two.  These options are available to new subscribers when they sign up; existing subscribers can access them by clicking on the link “Update subscriber preferences” in the footer of the daily email.

New Announcements section on the front page:  In an effort to bring you even more from Maven’s Notebook, I have created a new section on the front page titled “Announcements”, where I will post announcements from the State Water Board, Bureau of Reclamation, Army Corps, and others on opportunities to comment, notices of preparation, California Water Fix rulings, and other water minutia.  These items won’t appear in the sliderbox, but will be listed on the bottom of the daily emails.  If you’re not on daily email service, be sure to scroll down the front page from time to time to make sure you don’t miss anything.

Menu bar has changed:  The main menu bar has been reformatted somewhat.  “News by category” now has an extensive list of different categories that you can select.  “CA Water 101” is now where my informational pages reside.  “Water Management Toolbox” is a new project that is based on the Resource Management Strategies that are included in the California Water Plan.  Each page contains a summary of the topic, plus a link to the particular Resource Management Strategy in the water plan, as well as additional resources that are available on the web.  While there are still many sections yet to be completed, I’m working to add new sections all the time.  However, I do have a number of them done, and what is there might be useful to you.

MAVEN ON THE RADIO

I have the pleasure of being a regular contributor to Toro’s Water Zone radio show every Thursday night at 6pm.  It’s great fun to chat water with the “Water Boys” Rob Starr and Mike Baron.  The show is broadcast on KCAA in Loma Linda, as well as over the internet; it is available on podcast.

MAVEN TO MARK 10 YEARS OF COVERING CALIFORNIA WATER NEWS

April 17th will mark ten years since I started my first water news website.  An entire decade – quite a milestone!  I will be marking this grand occasion by attending the Delta Plan Interagency Implementation Committee meeting on the afternoon of the 17th, and having a meetup at the Hook and Ladder in Sacramento afterwards from 5 to 8pm. You’re invited to join me as I celebrate ten years of covering California water news!

SEND IN YOUR QUESTIONS …

I’m planning a special post for next Monday, although I’m not yet sure of what I’m going to write about yet.  Do you have a question for me?  Email it to me and I’ll try to answer it in the upcoming post.

THERE’S MORE ON THE WAY …

There’s always more at the Notebook!  As the saying goes, you ain’t seen nothing yet, folks.  I’m in the final stages of completing a new webtool that I know you will all find useful that I just can’t wait to unveil to all of you.  And this is just the beginning.  I have a head full of ideas – and some of them are even good! – and I look forward to implementing them over the coming years.

DONATIONS STILL NEEDED …

Funding Maven’s Notebook remains a challenge.  This website couldn’t continue to exist without my sponsors and my donors.  So if you have already donated this year, thank you, and if you haven’t, please consider a tax deductible donation.  Every dollar matters, and your support is greatly appreciated.

AND LASTLY, THANK YOU …

I certainly would not be marking this upcoming milestone if not for you, my readers.  I’ll save the big thank you for next week, but do know that it really is because you all show up here every day, that I do, too.

With warm regards,

Maven
